It's well-known that guys (and a lot of gals) like to modify their cars and trucks. Truck modifications are either for utility—to customize your pickup for its intended use—or to improve its appearance.

Utility modifications are more practical. For instance, light kits will improve your vision when you're driving in the woods or fields at dusk, and fog lights are useful if you drive in the foggy season.

As for the amount of lift, a two-, four-, six-inch lift kit (or more) will give you more clearance for driving off-road. And how much of a lift do you want even if you're just a "pavement pounder"? That all depends on you.

But let's be honest: we identify with our trucks and we want them to express who we are, so many customizations are purely aesthetic, sometimes even the amount of lift.

Lifted Trucks For Hunting, Fishing, and More

Truck modifications and lift let you customize your pickup for specific activities. Here are the most popular ones.

For Fishing, lift doesn’t matter as much, but towing capacity does (so you can tow your boat). Other common customizations are bed liners, pole storage systems, cooler storage, lights, steps, etc.
For Boating, you might want a bit of a lift to support the weight of a bigger boat, but too much lift may be impractical. Again, towing capacity is obviously most important here.
For Camping, if you're pulling a camper, you'll also want AC adapters and lighting. Your amount of lift depends on where you intend to camp. You'll also want to consider a bed liner, steps, and other more family-friendly features.
For Hunting, a small lift may be important so you can get off-trail, but towing may be less important. Bed liners and bed storage are crucial because you have to get your deer back home when the weekend's over.
For Mudding/Off-Roading lift is probably most important of all. Your amount of lift will prevent your pickup from sinking into the muck and let you drive through swampy areas, muddy fields and forests.

You'll need to raise your truck a lot and put on improved suspension components (shocks, springs, etc.) if you're thinking of really going off-road.

You'll also want bigger tires and may also add a ladder to make it easier to get in. Wheels and tires come in many sizes, and you'll choose the ones that will customize your pickup for its intended use or the look you're seeking.
